Emergency Management
If a local disaster were to occur, the City of Farmington Hills is ready. By City Ordinance and Michigan law, we are required to maintain an Emergency Operations Plan. If the Mayor were to declare a “State of Emergency,” the Plan would immediately go into effect and an Emergency Operations Center would be set up to provide assistance and directions to the “first responders” and citizens.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) provided water and supplies to citizens during the blackout in August, 2003. Since then, the EOC team has staged several small- and large-scale emergency training exercises to test our plans.
While the City is working hard to ensure that it is prepared in the event of a disaster, we encourage families and businesses to be prepared to take care of themselves until help can arrive. Information on how you can prepare your family or business is available through the Farmington Hills Fire Department or on the Federal Emergency Management Agency or America Red Cross websites.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Emergency medical incidents represent the majority of all emergency calls handled by the Fire Department. Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics are prepared to provide immediate and effective care in the event of an illness or injury. Since 1997 the Fire Department has been providing Advanced Life Support service. This allows our paramedics to provide life-saving treatment on the scene of an emergency. In cases of possible heart attack, paramedics now have the ability to obtain a 12-lead electrocardiogram at the scene of an emergency and transmit the information to the hospital, which allows advanced treatment decisions to be made before the patient arrives at the hospital.
